World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.
Using the item level can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it will be capable of dealing with. The level of an item can be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.
On PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete item description, including its level. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about how the item level calculation is made. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated using a formula that calculates the worth of an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values and gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the region the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major element in what makes or breaks an item for players. this link uses them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification which are then increased by the player's skill.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times, at higher costs.
Another way to change the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.
All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. Similar to the base equipment, this must be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is especially useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level of the item and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be bought from the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has a success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
